About Me

Back in 2006, I began a thru-hike of the AT. After literally months of preparation - and maybe years of anticipation - I hit the trail with unbelievably high hopes.

I had risked so much to be out there. I left my job, and donated my car. I saved loads of money, and purchased health insurance. But beyond the hike itself, my future was uncertain. I jumped in with both feet, and on March 1st, I was finally hiking. A lifetime dream had come true.

It was a great season to be hiking. Sure, it rained. There were crowds in the early going, and the Smokies were crowded. Even still, I met so many wonderful people, and received so much trail magic I gained a new faith in the kindness of people.

After a couple months on the trail, my hike was put on hold due to a pretty nasty foot infection. (I have pictures, but I'll save you the fright.) Thanks to people like Gourmet Dave, Mrs. Gorp, and Amoeba -- and a whole lot of luck -- it was only a 3 week delay. For the kindness I received, I owe so much to so many people.

I finally reached the summit of Katahdin on July 29th. For financial reasons, I still owe miles to the trail. As I continue my journey, I want to help others as I was helped before. That's why I set up this website.

Even the best resupply options can be picked clean during the peak of hiker season, and I know what it's like to "make due" because a trail town was lacking. Trust me, the term "outfitter" is used pretty loosely in most guidebooks. And the term "short-term resupply" can mean so many things. When you need new trekking poles, water treatment, or decent food, why leave so much to chance?
I want to help you when options are limited.

Just give me a chance.
